Definitions:

UMSDOS

A “filesystem” that provides the capability to install Linux on a DOS partition.

FIPS

A DOS program that allows you to split a DOS partition (possibly the only partition) on your hard drive into two partitions, one for DOS and one for Linux.

X-Windows

Correctly called the X Window System, or simply X, it is the foundation of most Graphical User Interfaces on Unix and Unix-like operating systems.

LOADLIN

A DOS program which, when executed, runs Linux from DOS. DOS is removed from memory (not from your hard drive) when this is done, so it is not possible to exit Linux and return to DOS.
